- On modern common-rail MTU engines, the ADEC system works in perfect synchronization with the electronic fuel injectors. The ECU sends precise electrical pulses to actuate each injector down to the millisecond. If you experience cylinder misfires or black exhaust smoke, the issue could be a worn injector nozzle, but it is equally possible that the internal injector wiring harness under the valve cover has degraded due to heat and oil exposure. Always inspect your harness connections during an injector service.
